The standard
We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, for everything on arkanika.net: the home page, the “Which mage are you?” quiz, the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, the account-deletion page, the not-found page, and this statement.
Where the website stands
Fully conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA, as of 15 September 2026, by self-evaluation.
Every page was checked in the rendered page, in both the dark and the light theme: automated checks (axe-core) plus manual checks of keyboard use, colour contrast, reflow at 320 pixels, text spacing and target sizes, and a pass with a screen reader (NVDA on Windows) through the waitlist form, the quiz, the policy tables and the deletion form. Everything those checks found was fixed the same day. “Self-evaluation” means the maker checked it, not an outside auditor; if you find something we missed, the address below reaches a human.
What we checked, in plain words
- Reading. All text sits at a contrast of at least 4.5:1 against its background, most of it above 7:1. Form field borders and the focus ring are at least 3:1. Nothing is conveyed by colour alone.
- Keyboard. Every link, button and field can be reached and used with the keyboard, focus is always visible, and the home page starts with a “Skip to content” link. In the quiz, each new question and the result receive focus so a screen reader reads them.
- Structure. One heading per page at the top, section headings below it, landmarks for the main content and the footer, labels on every field and on the theme button, and status messages (the waitlist form, the deletion form, the quiz) announced to assistive technology.
- Motion. The animated sky and the moving deck on the home page stop when your system asks for reduced motion, and the deck has its own pause button. Nothing flashes.
- Small screens and zoom. Pages reflow down to 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling, zoom is never locked, and wider line, letter and word spacing does not hide any text. Touch and click targets are at least 24 pixels tall.
The app and the browser demo
The Arkanika app, and the browser demo at demo.arkanika.net (which is the app itself, rendered in a browser), are a separate piece of work: they are being checked with VoiceOver, Voice Control and Reduce Motion on a device before the app’s store page states what it supports. Two limitations we already know: text size follows the system setting up to 135 percent (larger sizes are capped so the interface stays whole), and one decorative caption colour sits just under the AA contrast threshold until the next app update.
Tell us
If anything on this site or in the app is hard to use, write to support@arkanika.net. We answer within a day, and a fix, when it is ours to make, usually ships within a week. Please say which page or screen, and which assistive technology you use, if any.
